APRIL, 2017

The good fishing of March should continue to improve in April. Larger trout show up this month, and will be more prone to hit artificial lures as the water warms. Right now the ocean temperature is around 67 degrees with the creeks warming to 73-74 on warm afternoons. Jack crevalle and ladyfish are already being caught. The daisy chaining spawning schools of 15-40 lb jacks should make an appearance along our beaches this month. Similarly, you might run into schools of spanish mackerel, migrating cobia, and the occasional tripletail along the beach. When the ocean temps reach 69-70 degrees, the black tip sharks will show up behind the shrimp boats.

The redfish bite along the jetties, in the deep river, and in the ICW and its feeder creeks should be good. We've had an exceptional run of pompano recently, which may continue for a few more weeks. Black drum have arrived with both giants and smaller good eating fish entering the river systems and inlets. We are still catching sheepshead on both fiddlers and blue crabs. Bluefish have spread out throughout the area. If you reel in a leader without the hook, it probably was cut off by a bluefish.

Good fishing!
